IPL debutants Gujarat Lions have announced the city of Kanpur as their new home ground for the remainder of the ninth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Rajkot franchise led by Suresh Raina will now move to Kanpur for their remaining two home games this season.

Keshav Bansal, Director, Intex Technologies which owns Gujarat Lions said that the home fans in Rajkot were the strength in the tournament but they are now proud and happy to bring cricket in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

“Fans in Rajkot have been our strength and we are overwhelmed with the love and support we have received from them.”

“It is our honour and privilege to now bring IPL to the state of Uttar Pradesh and play our remaining home matches at Kanpur. We are very excited and enthused by our performance thus far and we are confident of receiving the same love and affection from fans in Kanpur.”

Gujarat Lions began the tournament wonderfully with three back to back wins to kick start the tournament. After a loss in the fourth game, they again dominated the opposition by three more in the row and claiming the top spot in the point table. However, after such an impressive start, they seem to be losing their track and look a bit inconsistent.

They are currently at the 2nd position now and will take on Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians at their new home venue Green Park Stadium in Kanpur on May 19 and 21 respectively.
