On the field, the rivalry between India and Pakistan is fierce and unparalleled. It is often called the Ashes of the subcontinent. However, off the field, the two teams share a good camaraderie. Be it Virat Kohli gifting his bat to Mohammed Amir, or Shahid Afridi correcting an Indian fan to hold the Indian tri-colour respectfully.
However, when it comes to political tension between the two countries, there have been instances when cricketers have shared divided opinions on social media, which caused controversies. One such instance is Shahid Afridi’s latest tweet on Indian Occupied Kashmir, in which shows sympathy to the sufferers of bloodshed in the valley.
Afridi wrote, “Appalling and worrisome situation ongoing in the Indian Occupied Kashmir. Innocents being shot down by oppressive regime to clamp voice of self-determination & independence. Wonder where is the @UN & other int bodies & why aren’t they making efforts to stop this bloodshed?”

Indians suggested that for the bloodshed to stop, the Pakistani management needed to curb terrorism in the tourist-feared valley.
Kapil Dev joins the debate
Former Indian captain Kapil Dev suggested that the views of certain people like Shahid Afridi do not deserve any attention. The World Cup winning captain was quoted by News 18 “Who is he? Why are we giving importance to him? We should not be giving importance to certain people.”
Gautam Gambhir’s views
Previously, Gautam Gambhir too voiced his opinion on Afridi’s tweet, calling it as senseless as asking for a dismissal off a no-ball.
“Media called me for reaction on @SAfridiOfficial tweet on OUR Kashmir & @UN. What’s there to say? Afridi is only looking for @UN which in his retarded dictionary means “UNDER NINETEEN” his age bracket. Media can relax, @SAfridiOfficial is celebrating a dismissal off a no- ball!!!,” Gambhir wrote.

Looks like the backlash is not going to stop any time soon, and more cricketers including Virender Sehwag can be expected to join the bandwagon.
