Kapil Dev obliges to Kareena Kapoor’s request, signs Taimur Ali Khan’s cricket bat
Kareena was one of the judges in the dance reality show.
Kapil Dev is an enigmatic figure in Indian cricket and his contributions have been immense. The Haryana Hurricane, as he is popularly known, captained the national team in the 1983 World Cup on English soil. And eventually guided his team to glory in the tournament, beating the West Indies, led by the evergreen Clive Lloyd, in the final at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London.
During those times, the West Indies were one of the toughest teams to beat and Kapil defied the odds to help his team come out trumps. After the glorious victory, cricket became a popular sport in the nation as budding cricketers still look up to him for inspiration. A movie by the name of ’83’ is also set to hit the silver screens and it will be based on Kapil’s glorious run in the World Cup.
Ranveer Singh, the popular Bollywood actor, is set to play Kapil’s role with a number of prominent stars- Deepika Padukone, Ammy Virk, Hardy Sandhu and many others in various roles. The film was earlier slated to release on April 5, 2019, but was later postponed to August 30, 2019. The release date was thereafter pushed to April 10, 2020 owing to delay in the pre-production.
Kabir Khan is the director of the movie. Kabir has previously directed movies like Ek Tha Tiger (2012), New York (2009) and Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015). As far as Kapil is concerned, he recently graced his presence in a dance reality show. The legend was there alongside Kareena Kapoor, the veteran Indian actress. Kareena was one of the judges of the show and was happy to have Kapil in the show.
I have this wish that my son grows up to be a cricketer, says Kareena
She took this opportunity to make Kapil a request. She requested him to sign Taimur Ali Khan’s bat as she felt that it’s the best possible gift for her son. Kapil couldn’t let her down and obliged to the request. Kareena was over the moon when Kapil was giving the autograph on the bat. Kareena also expressed her desire that her son will become a cricketer when he grows up.
“Andar hi andar ek khwaish hai ki mera beta shayad woh cricketer ban jaae. Isse better gift mere liye nahi kuch ho sakta (I have this wish that my son grows up to be a cricketer. There cannot be a better gift for me),” Kareena mentioned during the television show.
