Former India cricketer Kapil Dev was at the helm when India won the World Cup for the first time in 1983 beating the star-studded West Indies side at Lord’s. His inspired leadership and the team’s hard work paved the way for Cricket to become the most followed sport in India. Since there has been no looking back as India has become a cricketing powerhouse and many still credit Kapil Dev and his men for the evolutionary change.

The man inspired many with his excellent all-round abilities on the field and keeps motivating the younger generation even today. However, not many are much aware of his personal life and Kapil himself has given a sneak peek of the same in a recent candid chat with Bollywood actress Neha Dhupia.

In her show #NoFilterNeha Season 5, Kapil Dev revealed how he proposed his wife Romi and it all happened in a very funny way. The couple was inside a car when they came across a hoarding that featured the cricketer in an ad. Two of Kapil’s teeth had come out with some butter in the advertise and this is when the then India skipper asked Romi to click the picture of the same.

When she asked the reason behind it, Kapil Dev indirectly proposed her saying that they will show that picture to their children in future. This is when Romi asked him if he was proposing her and the cricketer then replied in affirmative. This was not all as Kapil Dev even had to convince Romi’s grandfather for their marriage as the latter asked him a lot of questions. However, Romi’s father was absolutely fine with their relationship.

The couple eventually got married in 1980, three years before India’s memorable World Cup win in England. The move on the same is set to be released soon in the theatres with Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone featuring as Kapil Dev and Romi.
