Former Indian skipper Kapil Dev has said that the Indian selectors should decide wicketkeeper-batsman MS Dhoni‘s future in the shortest format of the game. The 58-year old all-rounder talking to the reporters at the 3rd Krishnapatnam Port Golden Eagles Golf Championship said that Dhoni has been in good form recently and it is only the selection committee that has to ultimately make the decision.

Several critics and former cricketers had scrutinised the former Indian skipper Dhoni for extending his career, despite his slump in form in T20Is. The talks sparked off following Dhoni’s slow start in a high-scoring game, where India needed to get around nine runs an over, straight from the moment he walked out.

However, a slow and sluggish start from the right-hander meant that the required rate kept rising till it was impossible for them to get the required runs.

Dhoni is playing very good

“There is nobody who will play throughout their life. But, I think he (Dhoni) is playing very good. Rest, I leave it to the selectors. They will do better job than what we have to do,” he said. “I give opinion and it will only create confusion in people’s mind. I don’t want to (do that). Let’s leave it to the selectors who are doing this job. They will put a lot of time when he should play and when he shouldn’t play,” Kapil added.

A similar opinion was expressed by the former Indian legend Rahul Dravid. Dravid, talking at the Bangalore Literature Festival told that the selectors must also have a say on the selection of the players, giving due respect to Dhoni, saying that the 36-year-old knows when he has to retire from the game.
