The city of Karachi could well be the second city in Pakistan to witness some high octane cricket of international sorts. The recent reports suggest that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are keen on hosting the finals of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2018 at the venue. Last season, it was Lahore that had hosted the finals of the coveted tournament.
Albeit several big names refused to be a part of the final clash, the match did get underway with substituted overseas players for one of the finalist franchises. Now, the PCB Chairman is keen on seeing a grander success in the 2018 edition of the PSL. As per the quotes in ESPNcricinfo, Sethi exclaimed that the National Stadium in Karachi is the most likely venue for the finals.
He also conceded that the arrangements have been made in order to ensure that the venue gets completely ready for the big occasion.
“We have made a commitment to try our best to have it in Karachi. As we speak, the National Logistics Cell (a government body involved in the renovation) is working overtime,” Sethi said. “I talked to the [official] in charge and he has promised me that he will get Karachi stadium ready to host the final in March,” quoted Najam Sethi.
Work under progress
Meanwhile, the reports in The Dawn suggest that a big budget of PKR 1.5 billion has been allocated for the renovation work at the venue. The Project manager of the National Logistics Center (NLC) engineering, Mohammad Sohaib, noted that the work is going on at the right pace. “We are determined and eager to complete the task of the first phase within the allocated time,” he mentioned.
It will only be good for the game in Pakistan if the sport starts travelling to the numerous venues present in the country. This, in all likelihood, looks like a great plan from the PCB.
