Karn Sharma to represent Andhra from next season
He was roped in to play for Vidarbha last season and he did reasonably well for them
Karn Sharma, the Uttar Pradesh-born leg-break bowler, has been roped in to play for Andhra Pradesh in the upcoming edition of the Ranji Trophy. He was selected to play for Vidarbha last season and did reasonably well for them. The leg-spinner played only four matches in which he picked up 14 wickets at an average of 33.14 and economy rate of 3.24.
With the willow, he notched 106 runs at an average of 26.50 with a top-score of 52. Vidarbha went on to lift the championship for the maiden time. Sharma used to play for the Railways and has an experience of 65 first-class matches in which he has picked up 183 wickets with best bowling figures of 8/97. The 30-year old also has racked 1973 runs with 13 half-centuries and one century.
“We wish him all the luck”- Vidarbha
Meanwhile, he is the only recruit for Andhra this season and their team management updated about his inclusion. “This season, Sharma will be playing for Andhra Pradesh. He is the only professional recruit so far,” Ch Arun Kumar, the Andhra Cricket Association Secretary, was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
Karn represented India in one Test, as many T20Is and a couple of ODIs in which he only has picked up five wickets. However, he couldn’t stay put in his position in the national squad. His last international appearance was India’s Test versus Australia back in 2014. Meanwhile, Vidarbha has retained Wasim Jaffer and Ganesh Satish, two of the leading run scorers in the last season.
“Unfortunately he could not get much game last season due to so much competition, so he had asked for a release and we wish him all the luck for future assignments,” Prashant Vaidya, Vidarbha Cricket Association’s vice-president, mentioned while putting forth the reason behind Karn leaving the team.
