Indian cricketer Karun Nair hasn’t had the best of times of late. He was excluded from the Test squad after he was made to warm the benches in as many as six matches. Back in November 2016, Nair smacked a stupendous triple-century against England in Chennai to capture the imagination of the supporters. He also became the second Indian to breach the 300-run mark.
However, the 26-year-old had a few lacklustre outings thereafter and was subsequently, sidelined following Australia’s Test series against India in March 2017. Nevertheless, he staked his claim back into the squad during India’s historic Test against Afghanistan at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore but unfortunately couldn’t find a place in the playing eleven.
Prasad’s advise for Nair going ahead
The Rajasthan-born cricketer went to England for the five-match Test series and didn’t get an opportunity Recently, he was sidelined for India’s two-match Test series against the Windies and the batsman was excluded. After the omission from the squad, Nair didn’t mince any words in mentioning that nothing was communicated to him by the team management.
However, MSK Prasad, the national chief selector, said that he was made aware and Devang Gandhi, Prasad’s colleague, talked to the batsman at length in England in order to keep him motivated. In the meantime, Prasad also mentioned that Nair remains to be in the scheme of things as far as Test cricket is concerned, but advised to keep scoring runs at the domestic level.
“He will have to keep on piling runs in Ranji Trophy and whatever India A series is there. Karun is very much in the scheme of things for Test cricket. Right now, we have advised him to focus on performing in domestic and India A matches,” Prasad was quoted as saying in News18.
Lately, Nair captained the Board President’s XI in their match against Windies at Reliance Stadium in Vadodara. The middle-order batsman is currently playing for Karnataka in the 50-overs Vijay Hazare Trophy.
