Karun Nair looks back and feels he should have converted those starts against Australia

It was only a few months back when Karun Nair stole the limelight in the fifth Test Match against England by hitting a triple century and thereby becoming the second Indian batsman to score a triple hundred in Tests. Eight months post that innings, Karun Nair could not even find a place in the side for the Sri Lankan tour. Nair, while looking back at those repeated failures, felt that he should have converted two of them into substantial innings,

Nair commented that he has to respect the judgement of selectors and also made an impression that it was something of the past. Nair is presently focussed on the South African tour where he will be captaining the India ‘A’ side. Earlier Australia ‘A’ were scheduled to play in the series which was supposed to be a triangular series. Australia had to pull out of the series due to the ongoing payment dispute going on in Australian Cricket.

“I will have to respect the decision of the team management and selectors. That’s the way it goes and I am just focusing on South Africa now, the India ‘A’ tour, looking forward to it. It is going to be a new experience for me, I have never been to South Africa, so trying to just prepare myself and do well there.” described Karun Nair according to an interview with ESPNcricinfo.

Lucky to be in the Indian team at the first place

“If I look back, I got a couple of starts which I feel I could have made into substantial scores. Those two starts I got were supposed to be converted, but you know that’s how it goes for a batsman, sometimes you get starts and you are not able to convert them. I don’t think there’s any point talking about it right now. I am just looking forward to the season coming up and try to do better.” added Nair. In the long interview with Gaurav Kalra, he also admitted that he was fortunate to play in the Test team and if he performs, Nair believes he will be back in the team soon.

“Honestly, I was fortunate enough to get to play in the XI. So I was very happy, learning new things from everyone around and playing Test cricket. I was really enjoying myself and not thinking too much about it. But the competition is very high and it’s healthy competition. There’s nothing to worry about there, I am not thinking too much, just looking forward,” concluded Nair.
