The Kerala Cricket Association has let off Sanju Samson with a warning for his alleged misbehaviour during a Ranji Trophy match and has also warned his father Viswanadh for not inferring with his son’s cricketing activities especially on the ground. The young wicket-keeper batsman left the dressing room in the middle of a high intense Ranji match after having a heated altercation and later refused to apologise. The situation got out of hand after Sanju’s father Viswanadh apparently called and abused former KCA secretary TC Matthew.

Samson was ordered to explain the reason behind his unauthorised absence from the team after being cheaply dismissed during a Ranji Trophy game against Goa in Mumbai and also for his obstreperous behaviour in the dressing room. The panel was also looking for evidence regarding the allegations against Sanju’s father Samson Viswanath that he had abused TC Mathew during a telephonic conversation he had with the KCA President.

Subsequently, KCA dropped him from the side on disciplinary grounds. After the report was submitted to the central council, they let off Samson with an austere warning after both father and son submitted an unconditional apology. “We had a central committee meeting on Sunday. Sanju is an emerging star and youngsters in Kerala follow him,” the association’s new secretary, Jayesh was quoted as saying by the PTI. “We told him in no uncertain terms that his behaviour was unacceptable. He has tendered an apology. Also, we have told him that his father should not be seen during training sessions.

“He [father] used to accompany him for training and would be near the ground. We don’t want him to interfere in Sanju’s cricketing activities. A pushy parent sets a bad example and also it creates problems for other team members,” Jayesh concluded.

Sanju Samson featured in the 1st Warm-up game against England for India A but failed to make an impact as he was dismissed for a first-ball duck.
