KCA waits for BCCI's approval on Sreesanth's intent of making a comeback
Reports suggest that Sreesanth has made his aspirations of re-establishing himself in the game quite clear
S Sreesanth’s name resurfaced in the headlines after the Kerala High Court, on Monday, lifted the lifelong ban that had been imposed on the cricketer. The pacer had previously been handed a life ban from playing cricket in September 2013, for his alleged involvement in spot-fixing in the 2013 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.
Now, with Sreesanth eager to make a comeback into competitive cricket, the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) is reportedly waiting on the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s approval or otherwise on the matter.
Reports suggest that Sreesanth has made his aspirations of re-establishing himself in the game quite clear and has looked keen to be included in the state team of Kerala for the upcoming domestic season. However, the KCA has laid emphasis on any decision taken by them to be approved by the BCCI first and has written to the Board in the same effect. The player himself has said that he has already started his preparations to reinstate himself.
KCA seeks BCCI’s nod
In a press release, the KCA has said, “With the domestic season around the corner, KCA would also like to support him and provide an opportunity to train/practice in the pre-season preparatory camps and selection trials at the earliest instance, subject to clearance from the Committee of Administrators/BCCI.” The KCA further elucidated that it is willing to take a “positive” decision on Sreesanth’s bid to participate in state cricket.
This upheaval has come in the wake of the ruling that the Kerala HC passed on Monday. Sreesanth was made free of the life ban that had been imposed on him due to his alleged mix-up in the IPL spot-fixing scam, owing to the fact that there was no incriminating evidence to establish and prove his involvement in match-fixing. Further, Justice A Muhamed Mustaque dismissed all proceedings against Sreesanth that had been brought into effect by the BCCI.
