With less than a month left on their terms, the BCCI has already seen a response to its advertisement. Former Indian wicketkeeper Nayan Mongia is one of the first to throw his name into the hat as he responded to the BCCI’s advertisement by also sending over the required paperwork for the same.

Mongia had been keeping wickets till 2001 until a match-fixing scandal as well as poor eyesight eventually went on to rule him out of international cricket. Since then, the 46-year old has served in several positions including being a junior selector for the Mumbai cricket team.

The 46-year old Nayan Mongia went on to state that he was indeed very interested and keen on becoming a national selector. “I am very keen to become a national selector,” Mongia, who played 40 Tests and 140 ODIs for India, told TOI from Baroda.

Some of the others who are in the running for the position include Sameer Dighe, left-arm spinner Nilesh Kulkarni and seamer Abey Kuruvilla have applied for the post. Some of the former domestic cricketers who have applied for the job are Shishir Hattangadi, Shantanu Sugwekar, Robin Singh (jr) and Pritam Gandhe. A few reports even go on to suggest that former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad is in the mix for the same.

Left-arm spinner Nilesh Kulkarni is also in the reckoning for the selector’s post. Kulkarni went on to explain that he would like to give back to the sport in the form of being a part of the Indian selection committee.

“Having played cricket for Mumbai and India, I feel it’s time to give back to the sport which has helped me build my professional career first in cricket, and later, in sports management education,” said Kulkarni, a former left-arm spinner who played three Tests and 10 ODIs for India

The current selection committee constituting of Sandeep Patil, Vikram Rathour, MSK Prasad, Saba Karim, and Gagan Khoda will not be eligible for the role having already served four years.
