On perhaps his best day, it would almost be impossible to dismiss Chetan Chauhan. Despite playing just the 40 Test matches, the man from Delhi was as flamboyant as they come. Chauhan now serves as the vice president of the and District Cricket Association (DDCA).

However, despite that, Chauhan has come back into the spotlight after he told a court here that statement made by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and suspended BJP parliamentarian Kirti Azad against him and the cricket association were false and defamatory.

Chauhan made his statement and subsequently recorded it as a complaint witness with Magistrate Abhilash Malhotra proving to be the perfect witness. Chetan Chauhan, through his advocate Sangram Patnaik, has filed a defamation case against Kejriwal and Azad accusing them of defaming the cricket association by passing “scandalous” remarks.

Earlier, Arvind Kejriwal had given an interview to a news channel, stating that ‘sexual favors’ were bestowed upon a few selected players. The complaint from Chauhan came when former Indian cricketer Kirti Azad endorsed and repeated the allegation. Azad is an extremely decorated cricketer and was part of the side that won the Prudential World Cup in 1983. He went into a career of politics soon after the conclusion of his cricketing career.

“The aforesaid actions of the accused (Kejriwal and Azad) have severely damaged the credibility and reputation of the complainant (DDCA) in the eyes of thousands of cricket lovers, citizens of India as well as internationally,” the complainant told court.

The complainant has requested the court to initiate proceedings against the accused.
