Kerala bowler bags all 10 in an innings

Claiming all the 10 wickets in an innings is a very rare feat in the game of cricket; so much so that the feat has been achieved by only two players in the history of the international cricket – Anil Kumble and Jim Laker. Sri Lanka’s Rangana Herath came close to doing it recently but finished with a 9-wicket haul. While Laker’s bowling spell came way back in 1956, the achievement by Kumble remains afresh in the memories of all cricket lovers.

Now, a young 18-year old swing bowler from Kerala, named Nazil CT, bagged all ten wickets in an innings while playing in the local inter-district tournament. Playing for Kannur, Nazil bagged all 10 wickets against the opponents Mallapuram and his efforts restricted the opposition to a paltry score of 26.

It was a two-day U19 district match played at the KCA stadium in Perinthalmanna. He finished with figures of 9.4-2-12-10. Nazil aspires to be a swing bowler and admits that he does not rely a great deal on the pace of the ball. “I’m an inswing bowler and I don’t strive for much pace and it helped that the ball moved around in the morning,” he quoted after his efforts as per reports in Times of India.

“I would like to play for Kerala one day. For the moment, it’s about doing well for my district team,” he further added. The young pacer idolizes Bhuvneshwar Kumar and aspires to be good at swing bowling like his bowling idol.

In international cricket, Jim Laker’s figure of 10/53 was taken against Australia at Manchester during the fourth Test in 1956. The only other bowler, after Jim Laker, to take 10 wickets in an innings in international cricket is Anil Kumble, the legendary Indian leg spinner. Kumble picked up 10/74 against Pakistan at the Ferozeshah Kotla ground in Delhi way back in 1999.
