The Indian skipper Virat Kohli wasn’t done after winning the third Test match at Trent Bridge against England that made the scoreline of the series 1-2. He took the opportunity to remember the victims of the devastating floods that have gripped Kerala and dedicated the win to them. His gesture not only earned applause from the spectators at the venue but also the chief minister of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan back home.
Kohli dedicates win to Kerala flood victims
Kohli said in the post-match ceremony that the Indian team wanted to dedicate the victory to the victims of the natural disaster, adding that they could do that much as the nation’s cricket team. India thrashed England by 203 runs in the Test match to keep the series alive. They needed a single wicket to pocket the match which they did early on Wednesday, August 22 – the final day of the game.
Kerala CM Vijayan acknowledged Kohli’s gesture on behalf of the Indian team and said: “In 3rd Test match between England & India when India won, captain V.Kohli said, this win is dedicated to the victims. Even from England they’re keeping us in their thoughts. The whole world is sending us love & that strengthens us further to overcome this,” an ANI tweet quoted him as saying.

Nearly 400 people have been killed while several lakhs displaced in the devastating deluge Kerala saw in almost a century. Property worth several crores were destroyed.
This is not the first time, however, that Kohli spoke over an issue related to Kerala. In November last year, the Indian skipper was seen appealing to the school children to stay away from drugs. CM Vijayan was present on that occasion as well.
The Indian captain was adjudged the Man of the Match of the third Test match for his batting performance. While he scored 97 in the first innings, he improved it with a 103 in the second to contribute to India’s dominating performance in the game.
The fourth Test between the two teams will take place at Rose Bowl in Southampton from August 30.
