Former England batsman, Kevin Pietersen, has confirmed his cricket career in England has come to an end. The announcement was made by the batsman himself following the Surrey’s quarter-final defeat against Warwickshire in T20 blast on Friday.

The 37-year-old former England batsman re-signed with the county for this summer’s competition. Unfortunately, the veteran could appear only in a couple of matches in the whole season because of injury. He played his last match on 19th July against Essex which his team won by 10 runs and Pietersen was awarded the player of the match.

Kevin Pietersen took to the social media website Twitter and made this news public. He also thanked all the clubs he was associated with, ECB and his fans for all the support and the love. His tweet read, “Surrey’s loss last night means the end of career in England. What an amazing journey. Thank you, Notts, Hants, Surrey, ECB & supporters!”

The South Africa born cricketer will continue playing T20 cricket overseas as well as continuing his involvement in wildlife conservation programmes in South Africa.

A look at Pietersen’s career

Kevin Pietersen contributed for England cricket in 104 Tests, 136 ODIs and 37 T20Is. He accumulated 8181 runs in the longest format of the game with an amazing average of 47.28. The veteran piled on 4440 runs in One Day Internationals for his country at a little below par average of 40.73.
