Kevin Pietersen and Michael Vaughan hail Virat Kohli as the greatest player of his generation
Virat Kohli scored a massive 243 in his recent innings against Sri Lanka.
The legendary England cricketers Kevin Pietersen and Michael Vaughan have praised Virat Kohli for his exceptional batting performance against Sri Lanka. The Indian skipper is shattering records by scoring runs in abundance recently in the ongoing Test series against Sri Lanka. He has scored three back-to-back centuries is as many innings amongst which the last two have been double hundreds. However, both the former England cricketers feel Kohli is the best player in the world currently.
The 29-year-old brought up 5000 runs in his Test career on Saturday and also scored a magnificent 243 runs in the same innings to become the first captain to score six double tons. He surpassed Brian Lara who previously held the record with 5 scores in excess of 200. He has been leading from the front ever since he has taken over the reins of the team across the formats from MS Dhoni.
Kohli is a freak
Pietersen and Vaughan both are busy in covering the ongoing Ashes series but they do have an eye on the Test series between India and Sri Lanka where the hosts are dominating courtesy their skipper. Pietersen took to microblogging website Twitter and termed Kohli as the greatest batsman of his generation. His message for Kohli read, “The greatest batsman of his generation. He is on a different level to any current batsmen – @imVkohli!”
Even Vaughan, the former England skipper was in awe of the form Virat Kohli is in right now and called him a freak in his tweet. “Btw … @imVkohli is a freak … Best player in the World … #DifferentLevel,” his tweet for the superman from India read. However, the debate is up now given one of the best tons scored by Steve Smith in the first Ashes Test as his Indian counterpart is catching him fast after starting slowly in the longest format of the game.
Kohli is way ahead in the limited-overs format the way he is racking up the runs. He is only behind Sachin Tendulkar as far as the centuries are concerned in ODIs and is also fast approaching 10000 runs in the format.
