South Africa have all but crashed out of the ongoing World Cup in England and Wales after they lost the game against New Zealand in Birmingham. They couldn’t hold on to their nerves in a pressure game and bottled up several chances to seal the contest which led to Kane Williamson playing a masterful knock in the end. With yet another World Cup already gone, the South Africa-born cricketer Kevin Pietersen has come up with valuable advice for Proteas to get some of the greats of the game to get involved in their set up.

South Africa has produced some of the great cricketers over the years but none have been around the team in any capacity whatsoever. The likes of Graeme Smith and Shaun Pollock are commentating nowadays while Neil Mckenzie is currently working as Bangladesh’s batting coach. Rather he has done a wonderful job for the Asian team. South Africa, on the other hand, don’t have any of their greats involved in the domestic or international set-up.

Kevin Pietersen pointed out the same as he felt that Cricket South Africa (CSA) should take a few big decisions in order to build the team for the next mega event. The team always had the potential to go all the way but time and again, Proteas have choked in crunch situations of the big tournaments.

Pietersen took to his official Twitter handle to express himself and wrote, “Time for South African cricket to invest in its heroes & get that nation playing better than what it’s doing right now. There are ICONS there who I don’t see anywhere near their academy setups or the National team!”

What’s in store for SA in World Cup 2019?

South Africa have already lost four matches out of six in the ongoing World Cup and have managed to win only a solitary game with the other being washed out. They are still left to play against Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Australia. Though they are still mathematically in the tournament, even Faf du Plessis knows it is not possible for them to qualify for the semi-finals. Their next aim would be to get some winning momentum before bowing out of the competition.
