Khaleel Ahmed is an exciting prospect: India’s bowling coach Bharat Arun
"Workload management becomes very important."
The Indian cricket team has produced a number of exciting fast bowlers over the last few years. The likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah have turned out to be tormenting factors for the oppositions, especially in limited-overs cricket and somewhat in red-ball cricket as well. Recently another bowler by the name of Khaleel Ahmed has come to the fore.
The left-arm speedster made his ODI debut against Hong Kong in the Asia Cup and has donned the national colours in five matches in which he has got nine wickets. In the last match against Windies at Brabourne Stadium, he returned with his career-best figures of 3/13.
Meanwhile, Bharat Arun, India’s bowling coach sounded confident about the youngster and his future. “Khaleel looks a very exciting prospect. He’s sharp, has the skills to do well at the international level,” Arun was quoted as saying in ESPNcricinfo.
We have a very good fast bowling quartet
The bowling coach also described how the team management focused on producing an efficient bench strength apart from the primary pace bowling unit. India currently has a number of seamers waiting in the wings including the likes of right-arm seamers Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Siraj, who have performed consistently at the domestic circuit.
Moreover, he also put forth the significance of managing the workload of the Indian players as they play more cricket than any other cricketer across the globe.
“When we started off, the onus was on not only creating a pace bowling unit which would be a force to reckon with but we also needed a very good bench strength. To sustain fast bowling over a long period of time, you need to rotate these bowlers because you have to manage their workloads.
India plays at least 60 percent more cricket than the rest of the world. So workload management becomes very important. For the first time, I guess, we have a very good fast bowling quartet and also the bench strength is very exciting,” he added.
