Khalid Latif to fight the spot-fixing charges against him

Pakistan batsman Khalid Latif’s lawyer told on Friday that the player is going to fight the spot-fixing charges against him which came up during the second edition of the Pakistan Super League. The shameful incident in which names of five players have come up defamed the image of the country to quite an extent.

On Friday the player appeared before a tribunal where his lawyer clearly pointed out that “no one can be convicted on presumptions” and so the player is going to fight the charges. This is not the first time spot fixing has plagued Pakistani cricket as there are several other instances where players have been involved in such shameful acts.

But the Pakistan Cricket Board has vowed that they are not going to tolerate such things that degrades the image of the country and are determined to take strict action in this case as they reportedly has strong evidence. Pakistan pacer Mohammad Irfan became the first of the five names to be punished when he confessed to the only charge against him of “not reporting an offer of fixing”. Irfan has now been banned for one year, including six months suspended.

Pakistan’s T20 team openers Latif and Sharjeel Khan saw themselves provisionally suspended and expelled from the Pakistan Super League in Dubai on February 10 as they reportedly met a suspicious man linked to an international betting syndicate.

It was last Friday when Sharjeel appeared before the tribunal and is likely to fight the charges which could impose life ban on him. The other two cricketers to be suspended were Nasir Jamshed and Shahzaib Hasan. A two-member team will travel to question Jamshed in Britain where he was arrested with an unknown man as he allegedly played the link between the player and the bookies. But both of them were later released on bail until April.
