Kieron Pollard thanks Mumbai Indians for entrusting faith in him once again
Mumbai used the RTM card to get Pollard back in the auction.
He is one of the players who has been with the same team since he made debut in the tournament. Kieron Pollard was first bought by the Mumbai Indians back in 2010 and the team has continued to keep faith in the all-rounder. When given a choice, MI decided to retain Pollard with the RTM card in the IPL 2018 auction after Delhi Daredevils made the best bid of 5.4 crore. He thanked the team for “entrusting faith” in him.
He was happy to be retained by the franchise and thinks it is important to create a relationship – that between the team and the player. It helps them understand things better and then deliver. Pollard thinks being committed to just one team gives them both the opportunity to stand by in highs and lows.
Very good relationship
“I just want to thank Mumbai Indians for entrusting faith in me once again. Going into the auction then hearing that you were going to be retained, you know you have forged a very good relationship. When you talk of commitment to one, you can be committed to. People stand by you in difficult times, in good times and you reward them in the end. I am happy to be back at Mumbai Indians and looking forward to do special things,” Pollard was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo in an interview.
The team had had a discussion with him leading into the auction and he was assured that they would want to retain him. But Polly admitted that things can go out of the plan in the auction and he was happy to be back in the setup where he belongs.
“We had discussions before, but in auction you never know. But it gives you that sense of belonging. I also want to say this: playing the leagues gives me the fire inside to continue to perform and continue to show what I can do on a cricket field despite what other people think about me, about my performance, if I am good enough, if they want me or it. It gives me that burning desire. That is the motivating factor. They are not going to dampen my spirits. I am young. I have a lot of cricket left in me whichever cricket I play. I am going to give my 100 percent,” he added.
