Kings XI Punjab might shift their base to Lucknow
Kings XI Punjab can still play a couple of games in Lucknow if the shift doesn't take place.
Mohali based IPL franchise Kings XI Punjab had earlier asked the BCCI for a change in the home stadium. Lucknow’s Ekana International Stadium might be home to the Punjab team in the IPL 2018. The Kings XI management team visited the facilities in Lucknow and they were reportedly happy with the overall structure. It is now up to BCCI to grant the plea.
“The KXIP people had visited the Ekana Stadium and seemingly liked it. However, it depends on BCCI whether they allow the move or not.” a source told Sportskeeda. It is also believed that if the move doesnt take place, then also the Punjab franchise can play a couple of games in Lucknow, as many teams have played two of their fixtures in various cities.
Sources reveal the scenario
“It is a lengthy procedure and not something that can happen overnight. Firstly, the request needs to be submitted to the GC who will then look into it and take into consideration the various factors stated by the franchise for the shift of base. Also, only after they find merit in the request they will forward it to the working committee of the BCCI. But let me tell you, it is a complex procedure and one that shall require time,” a BCCI source told CricNext.
“They had bid for Mohali when the first-ever auction took place for IPL teams. So technically, if they want to change their base now, they will have to pay the BCCI. They have made this request earlier too but the board did not agree” a official had said
“The franchise has been facing many issues with the local police authorities. They have also cited lack of support from the Punjab Cricket Association. If they are allowed then chances are that their name will also change. It will be as per the new venue. The IPL GC will take a call on it”, he added.
