Ravichandran Ashwin has previously been selected as the skipper of the Kings XI Punjab
The Indian Premier League (IPL) will commence in a month’s time and franchises are gearing up to wield their magic in the upcoming edition of the tournament. Kings XI Punjab has dished out inconsistent performances thus far in the erstwhile ten seasons of the T20 league. The team bagged some utility players and later announced Ravichandran Ashwin as their skipper.
They also bagged Yuvraj Singh, who was also one of the contenders for the role of captaincy. He played an opening couple of seasons for Punjab and has returned to the team after a gap of seven years. Recently, the southpaw spoke to the social media team of the Kings XI Punjab and justified Ashwin’s selection as the captain of the franchise.
“Right man for the job”- Yuvraj
“I always thought R Ashwin is a smart cricketer. He is always adapted to situations. I feel he is the right man for the job. Building a team for Punjab in next 3-4 years, I think he is the right man to do it. And I hope Punjab does well under him. It’s his first stint as an IPL captain and I wish him all the best”, Ashwin was quoted as saying by the media.
Kings XI Punjab hasn’t won the tournament yet despite boasting of some prominent names in international cricket. Yuvraj, during his chat, also emphasized on the strength of the side this time around. He also mentioned the significance of performing well in all aspects in order to win tournaments.
“Ya, I feel we have a quite a strong squad. We are very strong in batting and we got some really good spinners. If we have to win a tournament, you have to be doing well in all three departments. If we can do that consistently, hopefully, we can go in the last four” he added.
