Mumbai Indians’ new find of the IPL 2022 Tilak Varma talked about the mindset that he carries when he walks into the ground to play and said that his only aim is to help his team win. Varma revealed how he was looking for the right opportunity to prove his worth and said the clash against Chennai Super Kings on Thursday was the right time to do so.

Varma has been a key component of the team ever since his inclusion. He was assigned the task of batting in the middle order and anchoring the innings, and he passed the test with flying colours. In the match against CSK, when MI faced a collapse chasing a low total, Varma kept his composure in order to lead the team towards victory.

In a video shared by the Mumbai Indians on Twitter, he shared about the mentality he carries while going to bat as he said:

“First of all, I have been thinking since the start of the season that I have to help the Mumbai Indians win. How much ever I score whether it is 30, 40, or even a hundred, whatever I make, what’s more important is that the team wins. I have to help Mumbai Indians win. Today was the right opportunity and was also a crucial situation.”

“I was faced with a similar situation last match but unfortunately, I got out. So I thought that this time I did not want to let the opportunity go to help Mumbai Indians secure a win. What made it even more special is the fact that my coach had come to see the match today. It’s a special moment for me to help my team win in front of the coach,” he added.

My coach reserves his appreciation for the times when I help my team win: Varma

Tilak Varma also spoke about his relationship with his personal coach and revealed that he was present at the stadium to watch the match. Varma felt proud after he was able to contribute to the team’s victory in the presence of his coach and also thanked the fans for the support they have showered on the team throughout all the years.

“My coach does not praise me when I play individually. He reserves his appreciation for the times when I help my team win. After today’s victory, when I met him, he said “well played, son!”. I want to thank MI fans and our Paltan. Usually, in Wankhede, they chant the names of our legends. But last time at Wankhede, and today, I heard them chanting my name. It gives me a lot of confidence to hear their voice in my support. This gives me a boost. I always thank Mumbai Indians and hope to keep doing the same,” he concluded.
