KKR have failed to back their players, the team is looking insecure: Wasim Jaffer
"Nothing is well-settled for the team, they have not found the right combination," Jaffer said.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have been average with their performances, with only four wins in 10 appearances in IPL 2022. After sustaining a streak of losses, they made a comeback by securing a confidence-boosting victory against Rajasthan Royals (RR). They need to win the remaining four games to reach the playoffs. Currently, they are up against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their 11th fixture. Former cricketers Mohammad Azharuddin and Wasim Jaffer shared their views on the performance of KKR in the ongoing season.
Jaffer thinks there have been insecurities in the team, with so many changes made by them in the tournament. He said that the top-order failure and ineffective death bowling skills have been the main reasons behind KKR’s disappointing performances. The former opener also said that the lack of form of Aaron Finch, Venkatesh Iyer, and Pat Cummins has certainly hurt the chance of the team. Notably, a total of 20 players have been fielded by KKR in the ongoing edition, which is the highest for any team.
“If there are insecurities in the team, and these many changes occur, it certainly reflects in the result. You can look at their top-order and the death bowling as well. Nothing is well-settled for the team, they have not found the right combination. The likes of Aaron Finch and Venkatesh Iyer have been out of form and Pat Cummins has returned expensive, which has been the biggest problem for the team,” said Jaffer on Sky247.net presents ‘Not Just Cricket’ Show on CricTracker.
You need to back the players for at least two-three matches: Mohammad Azharuddin
Azharuddin reckoned that KKR have not defined the roles for each player, and each one of them has been confused about their batting position. The former Indian captain added that the team management needs to back players and provide them confidence even if they fail to perform.
“The roles for players have not been defined in the team. Most of the players in the team do not know their batting position or [if they] are playing in the next fixture. You need to back the players for at least two-three matches and provide them confidence. With new combinations, it’s difficult to perform well for any team,” said Azharuddin.
