KKR may not feel the absence of Pat Cummins: Wasim Jaffer
Jaffer also shared his thoughts on Brendon McCullum's appointment as England red-ball coach.
Kolkata Knight Riders have been average with their performances and have only five wins in 12 appearances of IPL 2022. They have an outside chance for the qualification to the playoffs only if they secure two big victories. In the ongoing fixture, they are up against the challenge of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). In the latest interaction, former cricketer Wasim Jaffer discussed the form of KKR this season.
Jaffer thinks that KKR might not feel the absence of Pat Cummins, as the likes of Tim Southee and Andre Russell are already doing well for the team, and Umesh Yadav has returned to the team in the ongoing fixture. He reckoned that the team will be confident after doing well against Mumbai Indians (MI) in their last league fixture, and hailed the performance of the bowlers. The former batter further added that the team has opted to play with their old combination, which has worked well for them in the past.
“They may not feel the absence of Pat Cummins, as Tim Southee and Andre Russell have been bowling well, and Umesh Yadav has returned. The way in which they secured victory against Mumbai, will infuse much confidence into the team. The bowlers performed quite well, and Varun Chakravarthy also returned to the side. They have gone with that old combination, which had worked for them, and would hope to win the remaining games,” said Jaffer on Sky247.net presents ‘Not Just Cricket’ Show on CricTracker.
Wasim Jaffer opines on the announcement of McCullum as England red-ball coach
Jaffer was asked about the effect on the KKR players after Brendon McCullum was announced as England Test team head coach. He responded by saying that all the players are professional and know their roles. However, the former batter added that it would have been better if the announcement was delayed, but mentioned that the England team will need the services of McCullum for the Test series against New Zealand, starting in the first week of June.
“All are professional cricketers and know their roles in the team. There are many other coaches on the team as well like David Hussey and Abhishek Nayar. McCullum got the opportunity and he took it. But, it would have been better if it had been announced a little later, but England is already scheduled to play against New Zealand in the near future,” added Jaffer.
