The Indian Premier League 7 trophy went to the well deserving hands of Kolkata Knight Riders Skipper Gautam Gambhir. It was the second time that Gauti collected the cup as KKR skipper. The game was a perfect final as the total put up by KXIP was a challenging and KKR accepted it and got home with three balls to spare. No doubt KKR won the big one, but there were other winners too.Like KXIP won more hearts with the kind of performance they had throughout the tournament, their loss in the finals even would have moved a KKR fan for the sheer effort those guys had put in. All they could secure was the runners-up title.

Other felicitations also took place in the post match presentation ceremony. Let’s take a look at the award winners.

Orange Cap: Robin Uthappa – KKR (660 runs) 5 half-centuries

The Kolkata Knight Riders had one of the wisest decisions making Uthappa open the innings proved to be a master stroke in the end. Not only did his batting improve it radically stabilized and solidified entire KKR lineup. Full marks to Robin as he is in the form of his life and by virtues of some brilliant knocks, wins for KKR he also secured himself a place in the Indian ODI squad after 6 long years quite an achievement.

Purple Cap: Mohit Sharma- CSK (23 wickets)

In Mohit Sharma Chennai Super Kings have found a wicket taking bowler. Mohit has emerged as someone always looking to strike, though expensive on occasions, he sticks to his basic plan of getting the batsmen out. This is the mantra he has, not trying too many things, keep it simple and under control. Mohit was the front-runner in the Purple cap race closely followed by Narine and Bhuvneshwar but in the end he edged past them and took the big cap home.

Most Valuable Player: Glen Maxwell – KXIP (552 runs)

The Kings from Punjab made a big buy in Maxwell, who was scarcely used by his previous franchise the MI. Maxwell, showed his real game and class right from the beginning of the season when he thrashed the CSK bowlers for a quick fire 95. This just proved to be a starter and the real on slough was to come, every match the scenes would be similar and till the point Uthappa took the Orange cap it was held by him. No doubt he satisfied his franchise for every penny that they paid for him

Emerging Player of the Season: Akshar Patel – KXIP (17 wickets) at an economy of 6.13

Akshar Patel a lanky looking left arm spinner who can bat too was an ordinary pick for KXIP at the start of the tournament. But, as the tournament progressed he started to prove himself with the ball on crucial occasions and took wickets. A miserly economy wise and he is smart enough to get the batsmen done in with his variation. This performance not only won him this award but also a place in the Indian ODI team.

Most sixes: Glenn Maxwell – KXIP (36 sixes)

It is the second award for Maxwell, who dealt in sixes more than anything. The chunk of the runs that he scored was by this method of easy and maximum effect. Big hard-hitting got him this title.

Catch of the season: Kieron Pollard- MI

The tournament saw some really excellent catches, mind-blowing and hard to believe. The level of fielding was raised to an all time high and one would see fielders flying all around the ground. This contest was not easy quite a few brilliant catches were fighting to be termed the best for the season and in the end it was this beauty by Kieron Pollard that won the laurel.(also watch video here.)

Fairplay Award – Chennai Super Kings

A team to beat they have been in all these years of IPL, they play it hard yet soft. The men in Yellow led by captain cool MS Dhoni apart from a few livid wicket celebration been the real gentlemen on the ground. Playing the game to the right spirit is in the gene of the team no doubt it is the fifth time that they have this cup in their kitty. Though beaten by KXIP in the qualifier they beat them and the rest to win this one.
