The past few months, there has been a lot of discussion regarding India’s wicketkeeper in white-ball cricket. Parthiv Patel has now given his opinions on his choice for the role. Patel, who is the youngest wicketkeeper to have played in Test cricket for India, talked about the matter during the latest episode of ‘Lockdown But Not Out’ series by FanCode.
The Gujarat player said that he believes for ODIs and T20Is, KL Rahul is the first-choice keeper in the Indian team. The left-handed batsman also pointed out that the Karnataka batsman could be India’s short-term option, looking at the ICC men’s T20 World Cup, which is scheduled later this year.
“At this point of time, KL Rahul. I feel Rahul is your short-term thing in a way if you’re thinking of the World Cup. I think he’ll do the job for you during the World Cup, there’s no doubt about it,” Parthiv said.
Rishabh Pant should play some domestic cricket’: Parthiv Patel
As far as Rishabh Pant is concerned, Parthiv took his own example and stated that he feels that Delhi keeper should go back and play a couple of years of domestic cricket. He also said that the young keeper has a lot of talent in him. He revealed that he has also advised the same to Pant himself.
“Rishabh Pant definitely has it in him, there’s no doubt about that. If I put myself into his shoes when I was 17-18, I didn’t have a good series, and going back to domestic cricket for a couple of years helped me a lot. Every time I’ve met Rishabh, I’ve always told him that people are talking about you because you’ve talent in you.
If you had no talent and if you weren’t talented, people wouldn’t have been talking about you, so keep that in mind. Sometimes, you have to go back to domestic cricket and just get that form back,” he explained.
Talking about Jasprit Bumrah, Patel said that he had mentioned about the right-arm quick to Virat Kohli ahead of an IPL auction. At that time, Patel was a member of the Royal Challengers Bangalore team.
“I told Virat that this is the guy, we should be picking him! But obviously, Mumbai Indians outwitted RCB and he went to Mumbai Indians,” he said.
Patel and Bumrah both play for Gujarat and the wicketkeeper-batsman has served as the captain of his state team for the longest time.
