Indian opener and former Royal Challengers Bangalore teammate KL Rahul took to Twitter to pay tribute to the South African batsman AB de Villiers, who announced his International retirement earlier in the day. After being the mainstay for the Proteas for 14 years now, AB de Villiers announced that he would quit playing International cricket for South Africa with immediate effect on his Android application before he posted it on Facebook and Twitter. It has been a shocker of a decision from the South African, especially since World Cup is around the corner.

The former South African skipper, said “Today, at the same place, I want to let you know that I have decided to retire from all international cricket with immediate effect. After 114 Test matches, 228 ODIs and 78 T20Is, it is time for others to take over. I have had my turn and to be honest, I am tired.”

Twitter entered a melt-down with ABD’s decision

Twitter poured in to pay tribute to AB de Villiers, after his tremendous contribution to World Cricket. De Villiers has been extremely unlucky, as South Africa have failed to win the World Cup with the World Cup eluding the greatness of AB de Villiers. While cricketing legends such as Sachin Tendulkar expressed his sorrow over the retirement of the South African, KL Rahul appreciated the quote that ABD had told him during his stay at Royal Challengers Bangalore.

KL Rahul’s emotional tweet

In his tweet, the Indian opener said “Cricket is a very simple game KL. The more u keep it that way the more the game will give you back.” This Is the advice this great man gave me when I was 21. You will always be my Favourite Cricketer @ABdeVilliers17 #ThankYouABD”

Further, with the World Cup coming, South Africa would have to depend upon their skipper Faf du Plessis to keep the team intact and bring the trophy home in the absence of the batting sensation AB de Villiers. AB has time and again stated that his body is not keeping up with the pace the game has taken, and it is taking a toll on him playing the longest format of the game. It comes as a shocker and a decision that has always seemed around the corner for the cricketing fans.
