KL Rahul sends a cheeky birthday wish to Chris Gayle; asks him not to blush

The Universe Boss Chris Gayle is celebrating his 40th birthday today on September 21. The Jamaican was born in 1979 and made his international debut for the West Indies in September of 1999 in an ODI against India in Canada. Since then he became an integral part of the Caribbean team and even went onto captain the side.

The big man is more famous to the current generation of fans for his amazing T20 record, which sees him being the only batsman with over 10,000 runs in the format and with 22 centuries as well. He also holds the world record for highest individual score in T20s-175* which came in the IPL. He also has over 10,000 runs in ODIs with 25 tons and a best score of 215, which was the first-ever double ton in World Cup history, coming in 2015.

Even in Tests, Gayle boasts of 7214 runs in 103 games with 15 centuries and two triple hundreds, making him one of the four batsmen to achieve this feat. However, with him focusing more on the lucrative T20 leagues, Gayle has established himself as one of the best amongst the best when it comes to power hitting. He has been famous and successful in the Indian Premier League and his teammate, KL Rahul, decided to send him a funny birthday wish.

Rahul and Gayle share great chemistry in the IPL having played for Royal Challengers Bangalore and now Kings XI Punjab. Both openers have had a brilliant relationship on and off the field, which has developed into a great friendship. Rahul’s birthday wish for his friend was risky one despite being funny as it touched a sensitive issue. Wishing Gayle on his birthday, KL Rahul captioned asking Chris Gayle to not blush on his birthday.

This was a direct dig at Chris Gayle’s infamous comment to a female presenter in the Big Bash League a few years ago, which led to him being banned by the league. He asked the female reporter to not blush while giving the interview. Cricket Australia banned him from BBL in the aftermath of the incident. A fearsome batsman for the opposition on the field and a dear friend off it. Gayle will surely go down in cricketing history as one of the most charismatic players of all time.
