KL Rahul shares workout session video on Instagram amid recovery process
KL Rahul's fitness is vital for the Indian team which has struggled to replace the opening batter.
The Indian team has received a major boost ahead of their white-ball series in West Indies as their T20I vice-captain KL Rahul has begun training at the National Cricket Academy. The stylish batter is to join the T20I team ahead of their five-match series against West Indies in the Caribbean, which will be played from July 29 to August 7, following a three-match ODI series commencing on the 22nd of July.
KL has been missing in action after leading the newly inducted Lucknow Super Giants to the playoffs in their debut season. The opening batter, who led India earlier this year on India’s tour of South Africa, was due to lead the Indian T20I team in the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma against South Africa in a five-match series at home post-IPL 2022. But the 30-year-old pulled out just days before the series due to an injury. Rishabh Pant was appointed the captain after the opening batter’s departure from the squad, while Hardik Pandya deputized for the southpaw.
The Lucknow skipper underwent surgery in Germany and is well underway on his road to recovery. The star batter was seen having a net session against legendary women’s cricketer Jhulan Goswami at NCA on Tuesday. The latter is also making a comeback to the Indian team after missing the recently concluded Sri Lanka series. Rahul posted a brief clip on his Instagram handle, flaunting his mobility routines and workouts in the gym.
KL Rahul’s availability in the T20I series will depend on his fitness levels
LSG skipper is not a part of the ODI team that will be taking part in a three-match series against the West Indies, led by veteran opening batter Shikhar Dhawan. Although he is selected for the T20I squad, his availability for the series is subject to fitness and will only be included in the playing XI after clearing the mandatory fitness tests at the NCA. Kuldeep Yadav is another Indian cricketer recovering from an injury and his availability, just like the Karnataka batter’s, will depend on the fitness test.
