India captain Virat Kohli took the center stage once again as he led from the very front to propel his team to a stunning six-wicket win over West Indies in the first T20I on Friday. Kohli came up with his career-best knock in T20Is while KL Rahul scored a fifty too as the hosts gunned down their highest-ever T20I chase to take the lead in the three-match series.

India were in a bit of trouble after the visitors piled up a mammoth total of 207 for 5 in the allotted 20 overs. After being asked to bat first, opener Evin Lewis started the innings with a bang hitting a boundary and a six off the 1st overs bowled by Washington Sundar. Deepak Chahar gave India some respite by dismissing Lendl Simmons cheaply but Lewis continued his hitting. He was eventually dismissed for 40 off just 17 balls.

The likes of Shimron Hetmyer, Kieron Pollard and Jason Holder then made sure the reigning T20 world champions score big. While Hetmyer scored his first T20I fifty, Pollard and Holder provided the finishing touches to the innings on a forgettable day with the ball for India.

In reply, India started poorly as their star opener Rohit Sharma was out for just eight. But from thereon, it was one-way traffic as Rahul and Kohli did not let the visitors dictate terms. The two added 100 runs for the second wicket before Rahul departed for 62. There was still a lot to be done at that point and Kohli took the onus on himself to do the rest.

The India skipper shifted gears and went on to slam 94 from just 50 balls as the hosts crossed the line with 8 balls remaining. In the process, Kohli surpassed his previous highest score of 90* in T20Is. He was well supported by young Rishabh Pant too who played a fine cameo of 18 from just 9 deliveries.

Praise from Harbhajan Singh for Virat Kohli

After the match ended, veteran spinner Harbhajan Singh took to Twitter to hail Virat Kohli and others. The legendary spinner said that anything is possible when Kohli is on the pitch as he lauded the chase. He also had some words of praise for KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant as he tweeted:

“Kohli hai tho kuch bi possible hai what a chase @imVkohli well done captain 💪🏏 superb inn from  @klrahul11 too and lil cameo from @RishabhPant17 great win @BCCI”
