The Lord’s Cricket Ground’s Youtube page recently released the video of Middlesex opener Nick Gubbins naming his All Time XI. The only Indian featured in his list of cricketers is none other than the Indian captain Virat Kohli. The other Asian players to feature in the list are Rashid Khan from Afghanistan and Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardena from Sri Lanka.
No prizes for guessing, the Englishmen picked out Alastair Cook to open the batting with Kane Williamson. Cook is the only Englishmen to past the 10,000 run mark in Test Cricket while he named Williamson at the other end as he has always been within the Top 4 in any format of the game. He then named the quintessential Indian batsman Virat Kohli, claiming that he was fortunate enough to play against him in a game at Lord’s.
Following Kohli, he then named Sri Lankan legendary batsman Kumar Sangakkara at number 4 as the wicket keeper in the side. His compatriot Mahela Jayawardena finds a spot int he all time playing XI at 3 down. All rounder at the number six slot is fulfilled by the current number one all rounder of World Cricket Ben Stokes. Gubbins stated that he kept his head down playing against him as he did not wish to fire up a personality like Stokes.
The captaincy of the side would be handled by Kiwi great Brendon McCullum, with whom Gubbins also had an opportunity to share the dressing room with. The number eight slot is acquired by Vernon Philander. Nick Gubbins claims that his spell against him was one of the most testing ones he had ever faced. Stuart Broad would be opening the bowling alongside Philander and two other surprise choices for was Rashid Khan and Ryan Sidebottom.
Nick Gubbins all time XI: Alastair Cook, Kane Williamson, Virat Kohli, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Ben Stokes, Brendon McCullum (C), Vernon Philander, Stuart Broad, Rashid Khan, Ryan Sidebottom
