Kohli's legacy will be what he does in the next 15 months: Sourav Ganguly

While Sourav Ganguly loyalists won’t rate any Indian skipper superior to their icon, Dada himself has termed current Indian skipper Virat Kohli a master. Kohli’s team is dominating the world cricketing fraternity at the moment, and it seems that any team that faces the Men in Blue will have to fight against fire. After demolishing Sri Lanka in their own backyard, they are now busy making a mockery of the Australia side.

But Dada mentioned that Kohli’s real potential will be tested when he steps out of his comfort zone and travels across the world. Ganguly feels that it is always difficult to get the better of India in their home ground, but over the course of next 15 months, Kohli’s team will play 12 away Test matches against the ‘cream of the crop’ sides like South Africa, England and Australia.

“His challenge will start. No many captains in Indian cricket who have lost at home. It’s very hard beating India in India. His legacy will be what he does in the next 15 months when goes to South Africa, England and Australia. Those 12 Test matches will make Virat Kohli the greatest,” said the former Indian skipper while speaking to India Today.

Speaking about the unparalleled player that Kohli is, the owner of 22 ODI tons added, “He is a master. He is ready for everything, he changes his game accordingly. At this format he is a remarkable player. I don’t know how many hundreds he’ll finish his career with but if he continues to play the same way he’ll score lot of runs. Kohli is in complete control of this Indian team because of his performance. He stands up and delivers. He is a great example for the side, he is the best batsman in the team and he commands the respect in the dressing room.”

Not ready to compare Kuldeep with Bhajji

Dada was asked about whether Kohli’s Kuldeep Yadav, who took a hat-trick in the last game, is as efficient as his Harbhajan Singh or not, who has a Test hat-trick to his name. But known for his diplomatic style of answering, he said: “Fantastic for Kuldeep. He must have been really happy after the game. Hat-trick in Tests is a bit more different than one day cricket and Harbhajan had all the top orders but I wouldn’t compare. Great achievement for the young boy. He is going to a part of the side for a while.”

“India are going more wrist spin way. They can put pressure on Ashwin and Jadeja in the shorter formats. More on Ashwin because Jadeja can bat, he electric on the field and he can bowl good left-arm spin,” the 45-year-old further added.
