It has become common for the cricketer to have a busy travelling schedule, none so hectic as the one they have during the course of the two-month long Indian Premier League. Hitting the road is as difficult as hitting the field heavy during the match.

All the 8 IPL teams have worked day in day out to make the tournament a grand success, alongside travelling haywire throughout the course of the league. In a report, it is found out that the two-time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders have travelled the most compared to the other teams in the tournament, having flown 18,530 km.

Delhi Daredevils covered the least distance:

While the Delhi Daredevils fared poorly on the field, it has also travelled the least distance amongst all the IPL teams having travelled only 9,655 km. The defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad covered around 13,178 km during the tournament’s group stages, taking a certain toll on its players.

The team with the wooden spoon Royal Challengers Bangalore have comparatively travelled more than the Rising Pune Supergiant, having flown 11,383 km. The franchise from Punjab has covered considerable air space, with 11,936 km travel. The Gujarat Lions, meanwhile have travelled 11,441 km across India in the group stages of the tournament.

The finalists

The first-time finalists Rising Pune Supergiant have travelled 9,024 km with their matches being in Pune and close to their home. The other finalists Mumbai Indians have travelled only 8,205 km, which compared to the other franchises is less.

The average distance travelled by the eight teams in the tournament is 10,996 km. The longest journey an IPL team made is 1,974 km, which KXIP, SRH and KKR made from Mohali to Bengaluru. The shortest distance is 143 km between Pune and Mumbai, which RCB, RPS, MI and KXIP covered as per the reports in the Hindustan Times.

Green Routes:

Two teams took the green routes in the tournament, with both Delhi Daredevils and the Royal Challengers Bangalore taking public transports.

For their match on May 14 against RCB, the DD team took the Delhi Metro from their hotel to the Ferozshah Kotla Stadium. “It was a better way, given the traffic on the road. The heat in Delhi is also intense; the air-conditioned metro was a better mode. The team also got to interact with fans which were a good thing,” says a team spokesperson.

Meanwhile, the Royal Challengers took the green route by travelling to the Chinnaswamy Stadium in a KSTRC bus, which not only conserved fuel energy but also helped them travel to the stadium in prime comfort while donning their green jerseys.
