KPL 2015 Match 16: Bellary Tuskers v Rockstars, Review – Tuskers register a big win: Hubballi, Sept 10: Bellary Tuskers finally came to the party and in style recording a 10-wicket victory over the Rockstars in a rain-truncated match in the Karbonn Smart KPL 2015 here on Thursday under lights.
The victory came as relief for the whole team, who have lost three of their earlier matches.
In the last match of the opening leg here in Hubballi, chasing the Rockstars’ modest 78, the Tuskers started on a sedate note before both Pawan Deshpande and new skipper Bharat Chipli realized the urgency of scoring quick runs to up their net run rate.
Deshpande and Chipli matched each other shot or shot and milked the Rockstars attacks. Deshpande stayed unbeaten on 40 off 22 balls while Chipli, who was given captaincy hoping that some luck would dawn on the team, got his 43 off 23 deliveries.
The Rockstars got off to a blazing start, after being asked to bat, with opening batsman Rajeev H hammering four fours and two sixes within the first three overs before he departed for a 23-ball 33.
His wicket also signaled the end of fire-works that the goodly crowd looked out for. Wickets began tumbling as leg spinner Amit Verma claimed the four for five runs with Anil IG and CA Karthick picking up three wickets apiece, the Rockstars innings folding up for 78 in 12.5 overs.
The only other six of the innings came off the bat of David Johnson and no other batsman except Rajeev managed double figures.
“Our bowlers bowled very well and restricted the Rockstars from the good start they got. We needed to finish early so our run rate could also got up and we played to our plan”, said new skipper Bharat Chipli after the contest.
Amit Verma was awarded the man of the match cheque for his four for five.
