Karnataka spinner Krishnappa Gowtham has been playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) over the years and has represented three teams so far. He has so far featured for the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Rajasthan Royals (RR). But he only made his IPL debut in 2018 while with the Royals and has fared decently for them scoring 144 runs in 17 innings at a strike-rate of 173 and picking 12 wickets in 22 matches.
However, the franchise traded him with the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) late last year. Not many are aware of the fact that Gowtham was with the Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai side in the IPL 2017 when they had secured his services for Rs 2 crores only to bench the off-spinner for the whole season. However, the 31-year-old ended up being the part of the title-winning side and seems to be impressed with Rohit’s leadership’s skills.
When asked to pick a better captain between Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, Krishnappa Gowtham went with the former citing the same reason. “I would say Rohit Sharma because I’ve played in his team and we won the tournament under him in the IPL,” he told host Adarsh Raman on Insta live with CricTracker. Moreover, he also went to pick MS Dhoni as the best captain of the cash-rich league.
When asked for which team apart from KXIP, MI and RR, he would like to play if he gets an opportunity, Gowtham, not surprisingly, expressed his desire to feature for his home franchise, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
Krishnappa Gowtham is AB de Villiers’ fan
Andre Russell and AB de Villiers both are capable to win matches on their own. The former has done it for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the last couple of IPL editions while De Villiers has been playing for the RCB and has won them a lot of matches. However Krishnappa Gowtham seems to be fond of Russell for what he has done over the last two seasons and termed him the superman and also said that he would back South African superstar to win matches.
“Considering the way Andre Russell has played in the past two years, he’s been a beast. I did get a chance to interview him, I called him a beast. We should give it to him. But, ABD is someone who can change the game in any given time and the energy that he brings into the team. I would back ABD anyday,” the Karnataka lad further said.
Krishnappa Gowtham also described some of the top players in one word, terming his former RR captain Ajinkya Rahane as cool and Virat Kohli as Mr consistent.
Here’s how he described some of the other players:
Ajinkya Rahane – Cool
Shane Warne – Brains
MS Dhoni – Captain
Steve Smith – Smart
Rahul Dravid – Wall
Anil Kumble – Legend
KL Rahul – Star in the making
Virat Kohli – Mr Consistent
