Over the past one year, since his brilliant debut in a Test against Australia in Dharamsala, India’s own mystery bowler Kuldeep Yadav has carved his own niche in the international set-up. The 23-year-old chinaman bowler, along with Yuzvendra Chahal, forms a formidable spin attack which recently performed exceptionally well on the tour of South Africa. Kuldeep, in particular, bagged 17 wickets on in the ODI series against the Proteas.
Kuldeep’s bowling and variations still remain mysterious to many. It is often said that a video analyst best understands the bowling and batting that goes on in a game of cricket. However, according to Kuldeep, a video analyst cannot completely study his bowling.
“Technology has been there for a long time. If you are turning the ball, drifting it and deceiving opposition batsman, nobody can stop you from being a successful spinner. I don’t believe video analysis can make a big difference in understanding my bowling,” Kuldeep said in an interview to Hindustan Times.
“There are small aspects you work on, which no analyst can catch. It’s about understanding the batsman’s thinking and attacking him that way. How well you deceive him in a match situation is important. Those are the small things that you hone with regular practice, which becomes the differentiating factor,” the Uttar Pradesh bowler further elaborated.
Kuldeep’s fourth year with KKR
The young bowler’s next major assignment will be the 11th edition of the Indian Premier League, in which he will represent the Kolkata Knight Riders, a franchise with which he has been for three years. It was Kuldeep’s good outings in the IPL which translated his achievements into international recognition.
After all the success he has achieved at the highest level, the knights will have more expectation from Kuldeep this time around.
“Definitely, responsibility will be more this time. It’s my fourth year with KKR and I am looking forward to it.”
IPL 11 begins on April 7, while KKR plays their first game on April 8 against RCB.
