Kuldeep Yadav has risen through the ranks in the last few years. The chinaman spinner has the ability to give a headache to the best batsman in the world as it is difficult to pick him. While his performances have been brilliant in the shorter formats he still had a lot to prove in the longest format of the game. The wrist spinner had failed to make an impact in the Lord’s Test in England which raised concerns.
Kuldeep got an opportunity to prove himself in the Sydney Test and he grabbed that with both hands. The wrist spinner picked five wickets in the first innings but didn’t get an opportunity to bowl in the second innings as rain interrupted play. The youngster said that Shane Warne gave him some tips which helped him in improving his skills and made him even more dangerous.
Kuldeep Yadav revealed that his coach used to encourage him to watch videos of Shane Warne so that he can learn from the legend. Kuldeep told that he got an opportunity to meet Shane Warne for the first time in 2017 when he made his Test debut. The Uttar Pradesh spinner told that Ravi Shastri helped him in meeting Shane Warne in Australia.
Kuldeep Yadav on Shane Warne
”I’ve followed him from childhood. My coach wanted me to watch his videos. When I met him during the Pune Test [2017] for the first time, I discussed many aspects of bowling. When we were in Australia this time, Ravi Shastri got me to chat with him. From that day, he was often by my side to help me and guide me through aspects I need to focus on bowling in Australia,” Kuldeep Yadav said as quoted by Cricket Addictor
Kuldeep claimed that he was bowling well in Australia and his rhythm seemed to be good. He was feeling good about his bowling and meeting Shane Warne every morning during Test series was a great help. The Indian spinner said that Warne took a close look at his action and gave some valuable tips as he advised Kuldeep to remain calm in order to handle pressure.
”We met every morning of the Test matches. Before the Tests, I was bowling well, so I told him I’m in a good rhythm, getting turn and getting everything I wanted to get out of my bowling. He looked at my action and spoke to me about handling different situations, how to bowl when you’re under pressure. The kind of body language you should have. He told me: when you’re under pressure, remain calm and give a big smile,” he added.
