Kuldeep Yadav wishes to nail a fifer in the 2019 World Cup semi-final
"Kohli and the support staff back me all the time."
With the World Cup, scheduled to start in one-and-a-half month’s time, India are deemed to be one of the favourites to win the tournament. One reason for the same is that the Men in Blue have some match-winning bowlers, one of them is Kuldeep Yadav, who was excellent in the limited-overs series when India played a three-match T20I and five-match ODI series on English soil last year.
The Chinaman bowler has done exceptionally otherwise as well and can be one of India’s trump cards in the 50-overs extravaganza. As far as the WC, starting Thursday, May 30, is concerned, Kuldeep has his goals set and one of them is to get the Man of the Match award in the semi-final, picking up a five-wicket haul.
A confident Kuldeep Yadav
“Playing for India is always different and I know how important the World Cup is for the country. Before every tournament, I have set goals and for the World Cup my goal is to pick 5 wickets and win the man-of-the-match award in the semi-final because that’s the key match always,” Kuldeep Yadav was quoted as saying in India Today.
The 24-year-old also expressed gratitude to Indian captain Virat Kohli and the team management for showing faith in him throughout. “India skipper Virat Kohli and the support staff back me all the time and how I am working on my skill sets because they know my job is to pick wickets in England even if I go for a few runs,” the Kanpur-born tweaker added.
Kuldeep is currently plying his trade for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, he hasn’t quite been amongst the wickets with only three wickets in six matches at an average of 57 and an economy rate of 7.77. His best bowling figures of 2/41 came against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi.
