Kumar Sangakkara feels Virat Kohli has the ability to become India’s GOAT
The Indian captain has been at his best in the first test match against England
Before the start of the five-match Test series, there were doubts over Virat Kohli’s ability to succeed in England. He had a nightmare series the last time India toured the country as he failed to get going in any of the matches. However, the run-machine has taken his game to another level since then and has piled on the runs across the world. As it turned out, the Indian skipper is leading from the front in the ongoing Edgbaston Test and has so far scored 192 runs in the match.
He has already scored more runs and faced more balls in the first Test than he did in the entire series four years ago. Fans across the world have hailed Kohli as one of the modern day greats and talks of him surpassing Sachin Tendulkar have risen again.
Virat seems to be fighting a lone battle in the middle as the other batsmen have hardly troubled the scorers. Former Sri Lankan skipper Kumar Sangakkara also hailed Kohli’s performance and backed him to become India’s GOAT (Greatest of All Time).
Top of the world
“The way he is playing, Virat can well become the greatest ever Indian batsman. In terms of Sachin’s legacy both in terms of cricket and the way he has dealt with pressure, he is unique. But Virat is well on his way to match that. He is comfortably the best in the world of his generation and with time, he will mature even more,” Sangakkara was quoted as saying by The Times of India.
The run machine has played some fine knocks in his career and has demolished records after records. He has proved to the world that anything is possible in cricket. With passion and sheer determination, a player can reach great heights. Virat Kohli has set the benchmark for his team and is certainly leading the team from the front.
“If he understands himself a bit better and keeps improving his game, he will break quite a few records. It’s up to him how long he plays and if he does for a while, a few serious records will be broken.” the legendary Sri Lankan added. India surely have a few problems to address in their batting order but Kohli’s masterclass is certainly making up for the deficiency.
