Kumar Sangakkara in awe of Dale Steyn after the comeback this year
Steyn picked up 7 wickets in the three-match series against Australia.
After two years of exile in limited-overs cricket, South African speedster Dale Steyn made a comeback into the ODI side last month against Zimbabwe. The pacer has been highly impressive since then and it never seemed as if he was out of the action all this while. He looked like the Dale Steyn of old and was terrifying the batsmen as usual.
The Phalaborwa Express picked up five wickets in two games against Zimbabwe. Hence, he was also included in the squad that toured Australia. In the first game of the three-match ODI series, the 35-year-old bagged the Man of the Match award. He picked two wickets in that game and conceded just 18 runs in 7 overs.
He further went on to account for five scalps in the next two games. Overall, Steyn finished the series with 7 wickets to his name at an average of 13.42 and economy rate of 3.48. Not just that, he looked fitter than ever and was extremely hungry for wickets which impressed the Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara.
Dale Steyn – Heart, Spirit and Passion
Firstly, former South African skipper Graeme Smith put up a special tweet for the pacer. He asked people to never write off champions in his tweet. “Amazing how many people wrote him off, never write off a champion!” wrote Smith praising the pacer.
Sangakkara replied to this tweet and exclaimed that what a bowler Steyn is. He further elaborated three qualities of the 35-year-old which helped him stage this beautiful comeback. Heart, spirit and passion, according to Sangakkara are the traits that define Steyn.
“What a bowler!!@DaleSteyn62 heart, spirit and passion,” wrote Sangakkara in reply to Smith’s tweet.
Dale Steyn will be plying his trade in the Mzansi Super League 2018 next. He will be representing the Cape Town Blitz in the tournament and is expected to be in action on 16 November in the game against Tshwane Spartans.
