Kumar Sangakkara, the Lankan legend retires: Twitter -Reactions: When India gave Sri Lanka a target a target of 413, on the 4th day in Colombo, each of us realised that we are going to see Kumar Sangakkara will walk out to bat one last time in his Cricket carrier to represent the Lankan lions. From the stands to the streets, from the Television screens to the office desks, everybody in Sri Lanka took a momentary pause to stand and applaud for Kumar Chokshanada Sangakkara as he made his way out to the middle for one last time in national colours. The P Sara Oval was on its feet. The Indian team and the umpires lined up to give Sangakkara a guard of honour.
But much to everybody’s disappointment, and I include Indians in that Sanga just managed score 18 runs before being once again dismissed by R Ashwin. It was a small celebration from the Indians as they knew the occasion. They were quick to go and congratulate the master before he walked off. That ended a wonderful and memorable 15-year-old career. The fans were shocked in the stands. Wife Yehali, after being disappointed initially, recovered and managed a smile as Sanga raised his bat and waved to the crowd as he walked back for one final time. With the Sri Lankan flag in his hand, the famous Lankan fan Percy went on the field and congratulated Sanga.
Sangakkara without a doubt has been the most complete player to come out of the Lankan islands. His class and elegance were unmatched while his off field behaviour was exemplary. His personality was assuring and his presence was soothing. The social media was quick to acknowledge Sanga’s achievements and congratulate him on his fantastic career. Here are some of the best reactions on Twitter:

Sri Lankan hero dismissed for one final time. Caught by a Tamil, bowled by a Tamil. Who said there are no fairy tale endings in sport?
