Kusal Perera-led Sri Lanka surpasses India to register an unwanted record post horrific England tour
The loss against England made Sri Lanka the bearers of an unpleasant record
It has not been quite a good time for the Sri Lanka side as they were completely outplayed by England in their recent series. The team faced a complete whitewash in the T20I series and England took a lead in the ODIs as well. A lot of criticism and questions were hence hurled on the Sri Lanka team after their disappointing display.
This loss however made Sri Lanka the bearers of an unpleasant record. After their defeat in the second ODI, the Kusal Perera-led side registered their 428th ODI defeat becoming the team with the most losses in the One Day International (ODI) games. Before their tour of England, Sri Lanka had 390 wins and 426 losses but now they have surpassed India’s tally of 427 losses.
Having said that India’s winning percentage is far decent and they have also played more ODI games as compared to that of Sri Lanka. The Indian team has played a total of 993 ODI games which is 133 more than their neighbours who have played 861 matches. This thus increases India’s winning percentage which is 54.67 %.
Acid Test for Sri Lanka ahead of facing India
After an utterly dismaying series defeat against England, Sri Lanka is all set to lock horns with India for 3 ODIs and as many T20Is. Moving ahead in this series, the Sri Lankan team will have to make certain tweaks to their approach and right the wrongs. This would certainly be a testing time for them for which they would need to tinker on many aspects than just one.
The Indian side on the other hand is geared up to take the charge of the field against Sri Lanka. The second-string team led by Shikhar Dhawan would be keen to display their flair and have a good outing. Under the watchful eyes of Rahul Dravid who has taken up the mantle of being the head coach of the side for this tour, it would be a great learning experience for the young guns who have received their maiden India call-ups.
India and Sri Lanka will battle it out for the first ODI of the series on July 13 at the R.Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.
