KXIP finally trade Ravi Ashwin to Delhi Capitals; get 1.5 crores and J Suchith in return
This will be the fourth franchise that Ashwin will turn up for.
It has been a source of debate for the past few months now. The Ravi Ashwin trade deal conundrum between Kings XI Punjab and the Delhi Capitals has been in the news for a while now. Earlier it was being reported that the deal of trading India’s ace spinner had fallen off the cliff and the Kings XI Punjab were reluctant to release their captain of the past two editions of the IPL.
Anil Kumble, who had been appointed as the coach and director of cricket operations of the franchise had spoken of the value that Ashwin brought to the set-up but also admitted that whether he would continue as the captain of the Punjab-based team in the 2020 edition was yet to be decided.
KXIP trade Ravi Ashwin for Jagadeesha Suchith
However, squashing all the rumors, the Kings XI Punjab have now locked in their deal with the Delhi Capitals, trading Ashwin to the Delhi-based franchise and in exchange they got 1.5 crores. According to a report published in ESPNCricinfo, the KXIP captain has been traded to Delhi Capitals in exchange for Karnataka spinner Jagadeesha Suchith. Ashwin is expected to be paid Rs 7.6 crore, his auction value, by the Delhi Capitals. The Kings had also asked for Trent Boult as part of the deal but it did not materialize in the end.
“Everyone is happy with this deal. We are happy, Ashwin is happy and Delhi is happy. We were in talks with three teams but have finally come to this conclusion. We wish Ashwin the very best. It was a pleasure working with Ashwin. We enjoyed our time with him and I wish him all the best,” Kings XI Punjab co-owner, Ness Wadia, was quoted as saying by Sportstar.
It is to be noted that under the leadership of Ashwin, KXIP showed immense promise in the first half of both the 2018 and 2019 season before eventually falling off the cliff at the backend. This will be the fourth franchise that Ashwin will turn up for. Previously he has featured for the Chennai Super Kings, Rising Pune Supergiant(s) and Kings XI Punjab.
