Kyle Jamieson’s brilliant in-swinger brings an end to aggressive Prithvi Shaw’s innings
The batsman played down the wrong line and the ball pitched on the good length and moved in, going through the gate between the bat and the body and disturbed the furniture.
The second ODI between New Zealand and India being played at the Eden Park in Auckland saw the 6ft 8in tall Kyle Jamieson make his international debut for the Black Caps. The tallest Kiwi player had impressed one and all in the New Zealand A vs India A limited-overs matches a few weeks ago.
The coin shined in favor of Indian captain Virat Kohli, who won the toss and decided to chase. New Zealand made a host of changes leaving out both spinners Santner and Sodhi out. Martin Guptill’s 79 and Ross Taylor’s 73 were the foundation of Kiwi’s innings, as Henry Nicholls, and Tom Blundell supported the duo. Meanwhile, India left out Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Shami, who was replaced by Navdeep Saini.
But the Indian bowlers made a good comeback after New Zealand were 133/1, as Chahal, who replaced Kuldeep, picked 3/58 and Shardul Thakur picked two wickets as New Zealand only managed 273/8, that too with help of debutant Jamieson’s 25* at the fag end of the innings. Meanwhile, Hamish Bennett gave New Zealand the perfect start by removing Mayank Agarwal for 3 runs, but Prithvi Shaw at the other end was going great guns.
Prithvi Shaw’s brilliant knock comes to an end thanks to Jamieson’s brilliance
Shaw made 24 runs without taking a single or double, hitting 6 boundaries in his innings that lasted 19 balls. He was looking like taking the game away from the Black Caps in a jiffy but it seemed that this day belonged to Kyle Jamieson, as the tall bowler bowled an amazing inswinger and hit the top of the middle stump of Shaw.
The batsman played down the wrong line and the ball pitched on the good length and moved in, going through the gate between the bat and the body and disturbed the furniture.
Here is the video of the dismissal:
This began a downfall of wickets for the Indian team, who had already lost Agarwal. Virat Kohli looked good for his 15, before Southee went through his defense, while Colin de Grandhomme got KL Rahul to chop the ball on his own stumps on the first ball he bowled in the match, leaving India 71/4 in 14 overs, chasing 274 for the victory.
