Former Australian vice-captain David Warner invited a lot of trouble as he was involved in the ball tampering controversy. The 31-year-old had a key role in the entire sequence according to reports. Furthermore, the disgraced cricketer was stripped of the vice-captaincy and handed a one-year ban for his part in the ball-tampering scandal and would never be eligible for a leadership role in the future. He also won’t be taking part in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year.
Former English skipper Michael Vaughan lashed out at Warner after the latter’s recent press conference. Also, Warner has played his last game for Australia as many opine. It was revealed that he instructed Cameron Bancroft to rough up the ball with sandpaper and also handed him the piece of paper. Warner himself said that he might never play for Australia again with teary eyes in the press conference.
David Warner has abused everyone except India to protect his IPL deal
His low-standing in world cricket should be of no surprise to anyone because of his on-field behaviour, claims Vaughan. Warner has had little sympathy for his one-year ban from cricket. The former English skipper also believes on-field behaviour has left Warner with few friends in the game. Vaughan spoke about all the ball-tampering saga on Monday night on 5 Live Sport. He further stated that Warner deserves tough criticism.
“It’s not been surprising to me that the whole world has piled in because, particularly David Warner, he has said quite a few things to a number of teams and a number of individuals. I think Nasser Hussain summed it up on television when he said he seemed to have abused every team other than the Indians, which potentially might have affected his IPL contract. That’s been the reason why so many people have said ‘right, this is our time, we’re going to have a few words against the team and particularly David Warner’,” Vaughan said.
He also said Warner didn’t have many friends and also didn’t hesitate from criticising Cricket Australia. He said that CA nurtured him to be the kind of person he is today. “I think he’s a wonderful player but some of the ways that he’s been around the team is down to Cricket Australia because they have unleashed him, they’ve told him to go out and be that person,” he further added.
Warner gets very personal
Vaughan also added that there isn’t one thing that he likes about David Warner. He said that he gets very personal and hurts the other players.
“Cricket Australia has to look at themselves. This David Warner character, I don’t like the way he acts. I don’t like the way he plays, I don’t like what I hear he says to the opposition players. He gets personal. Over two or three years CA said ‘go and be the bull, not the reverend’. They created this character, now they’re throwing him out as the scapegoat,” he concluded.
