Lancashire rope in Keshav Maharaj for the remainder of County season
Glen Chapple, Lancashire's head coach, was delighted to have the tweaker.
Lancashire have had a horrendous campaign in the ongoing season of the County Championship, England’s first-class tournament. The team is currently the cellar dweller in the Division One having garnered only 77 points from one win in ten matches. They have four matches remaining in the season and would be keen to end the season on a positive note.
Their next encounter is against Worcestershire in Southport that starts tomorrow. In the meantime, Lancashire has drafted in South African spinner Keshav Maharaj for the rest of the first-class season. He recently became the joint highest wicket-taker in the Proteas two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. Glen Chapple, Lancashire’s head coach, was delighted to have the tweaker.
I’m thrilled to be signing for Lancashire
“We’re really pleased that Keshav has joined the Club. He’s a world class spinner and will strengthen our bowling attack for the final four Championship games. He is an international bowler with experience of bowling in English conditions and we’re looking forward to welcoming him to Emirates Old Trafford,” Chapple was quoted as saying in cricket.lancashirecricket.co.uk.
The Natal-born left-arm spinner also sounded ecstatic on the selection. Last year, he played four Tests against England and nipped out 17 wickets. The 28-year-old talked about his experience of playing on English soil and also mentioned playing County cricket as one of his ambitions.
“I’m thrilled to be signing for Lancashire for the remainder of the season. Having previously played in England with South Africa, it’s been an ambition of mine to return and play county cricket. I’m very much looking forward to joining up with the squad and hopefully I can make a significant contribution to help the team during my time here,” he added.
Lancashire’s last three matches are against Somerset, Yorkshire, and Hampshire in Taunton, Leeds, and Southampton respectively. For the time being, the team requires herculean efforts to turn their fortunes around in the championship.
