Lanka Premier League 2021: All you need to know about the tournament
There will be a total of 24 matches played in the tournament, and the opening match will be played between the Galle Gladiators and Jaffna Kings.
The 2021 edition of the Lanka Premier League will commence on 5th December 2021. The tournament will be a 19-day affair, with the final slated to be played on 23rd December 2021. There will be a total of 24 matches played in the tournament, and the opening match will be played between the Galle Gladiators and Jaffna Kings.
And, the five teams that will take part in the 2021 edition of the tournament are Colombo Stars, Dambulla Giants, Galle Gladiators, Jaffna Kings and Kandy Warriors. The Jaffna Stallions have been renamed as the Jaffna Kings for the upcoming edition.
The 2020 edition of the competition was won by the Jaffna Stallions (now Jaffna Kings) side. In the final of the tournament, the Stallions thrashed the Galle Gladiators by 53 runs to lift the title.
Also, the playoffs stages of the tournament will take place in the ‘IPL style’. The top two teams will play Qualifier 1, and the Eliminator will be played between the 3rd and 4th placed sides. The winner of the 1st Qualifier will directly book their spot in the final, while the loser will get one more chance in Qualifier 2.
