'Leave out Kedar Jadhav and play Yuzvendra Chahal in 2nd ODI against New Zealand' - Harbhajan Singh
India lost 1st ODI against New Zealand by four wickets.
India lost the ODI series opener against New Zealand by four wickets. After facing a whitewash in the T20I series, the majority of fans had not expected such brilliance from Black Caps but they surprised everyone with their sublime performance.
The Men in Blue scored a mammoth total of 347 runs after KL Rahul (88) and Shreyas Iyer (109) played mesmerising knocks with their willow. Debutant opener Mayank Agarwal and Prithvi Shaw, on the other side, failed to utilize the golden opportunity to prove their mettle on the international stage.
The former scored 32 runs whereas the latter mustered 20 runs. It looked like that Team India will secure a win once again but that was not the case. Ross Taylor (109*), Henry Nicholas (78) and Tom Latham (69) led New Zealand to their first win against the Men in Blue this year. It was no less than a retaliation stating that New Zealand is now fully equipped to give a tough fight back to the Indian side.
Harbhajan Singh suggests a tactical change
Now, Harbhajan Singh, the former Indian spinner has opened up about the weakness of New Zealand cricketers. He said that Team India should play Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Sharma together in the upcoming ODI. According to him, Kiwi players can play fast bowlers quite easily irrespective of their stature.
On the other hand, they struggle a lot when it comes to scoring runs against the spin heads. Even, the spinners will help their side in getting wickets in the middle overs. Hence, Virat Kohli and Co. can leave Kedhar Jadhav and play with an extra spinner in the upcoming ODI.
“I would like to see both spinners playing together – Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. This New Zealand team will play fast bowlers on any given day and they will take anyone on. But when it comes to playing spinners, it has always been a case for them. You can get those wickets in the middle overs. So I would like to see both the spinners play together. Maybe leave out Kedar Jadhav and play an extra spinner,” Harbhajan Singh said as quoted by Hindustan Times.
